The BEST nights are usually unplanned, random, and spontaneous
Seriously. Are you spontaneous? Random? I am. Smile.
“Performance or occurring as a result of a sudden inner impulse or inclination and without
premeditation or external stimulus.”
Random– proceeding, made, or occurring without definite aim, reason, or pattern:
What I’ve come to realize is that most people are not spontaneous OR random. Correction, most
adults are not. Children are. Children are happy, and carefree. Adults not so much. Interesting.
It’s pretty sad when you think about it. I taught elementary school for 10 years. Eight years in
first grade and 2 years in third. First graders, 6-7 year olds are carefree, joyous, and genuinely
happy. Something changes from first to third grade, or should I say 7-9 years of age. It’s called
The World. Adults happen. Naysayers. A commonly asked question the first
week of school – What do you want to be when you grow up? Answers vary with contagious enthusiasm.
“A doctor, a movie star, the president of the United States”, all spoken with certainty, by the
#BAM worthy indeed.
The exact same question asked in just a two year time period with a completely different response.
No enthusiasm whatsoever. What do you want to be when you grow up? Crickets. (One of my favorite
words currently) Complete silence.
Then answers like I don’t know, I have no idea, my dad is a doctor, something that makes a lot of
money… The latter bothered me; shook me to my core. Wow. No passion, no more excitement.
Interesting again, right? At the ripe ol age of 9-10 insert the use of “Filter”. The need to aim,
premeditate. No more Dreaming. In order to “Be Amazing” you need to realize when you stopped
believing you were. I am extremely fortunate that I grew up with a Dad telling me I could be the
first president of the United States of America. Guess what? I believed him.
Why do we let our self-limiting beliefs affect other people, more importantly children? This is one of my favorite videos. Watch. You might want to watch it again. It’s titled – “Lost Generation” by AARP http://youtu.be/EFBe7KDkOYw
In order to change the World, we must change ourselves first. Reclaim our Greatness. Raise the Bar.
One Woman at a time.
If misery loves company, stop hanging around miserable people who bring you down. Stop self-loathing and reclaim your power. Our #BAM Tribe is all about Empowering one another. If the children are our future, (cue Whitney Houston) the common goal is to raise strong, independent, passionate children. We must lead by example. Children do as they see NOT as they hear. We can learn a lot from them. We are them. Children are
Amazing; You are Amazing.
Action Item –
What if adults started observing children’s randomness, their playfulness, their spontaneity &
joined them? Every person on this earth should take a daily #SoulRecess; it’s fuel for your soul.
So guess what? We get to be random today, spontaneous, and wait for it… PLAY. You will laugh, you
will smile. Take it all in. Only takes 5-10 minutes, more if you’d like.
